Alabama comes into the game as the favorite, as the Crimson Tide have odds of -9.5 points against Notre Dame. The over/under total has been set at 40.5 points. According to oddsmakers from Bovada.lv, Alabama has been given over/under odds of 26 points for this game, while Notre Dame has been given over/under odds of 16 points for the BCS National Championship Game.

Alabama comes into the title game ranking 13^th nationally in scoring, posting an average of 38.5 points per game. Alabama has been typically able to overpower opposing defense and rack up a number of points. The Tide have only been held under 26 points twice this season. That was in a 21-17 win over LSU and in a 29-24 loss to Texas A&M. It is hard to say that Alabama has faced many tough defenses this season. A&M and LSU would likely be the best and perhaps the most comparable to what Notre Dame can do defensively. The Fighting Irish lead the nation in fewest points allowed, averaging just 10.3 points per game. The most points Notre Dame allowed in a game was 26, and that was to Pitt in triple overtime.

The Notre Dame offense is clearly not a real strong unit. The Irish averaged just 26.8 points per game on the season, which put them 75^th in the country. However, the offense improved throughout the season and racked up at least 21 points in their last five games. They have only been held under 16 points one time this season, and that was against Michigan. Still, the Irish haven’t faced a defense to the talent of Alabama. Like Notre Dame, Alabama has a very strong defense. The Tide ranked second nationally in points allowed at 10.7 per game. Alabama actually leads the country in fewest yards allowed, giving up just 246 yards per game. Despite all this, Alabama has given up at least 17 points in three games this season. They did so to LSU, A&M and Georgia.
