SEATTLE (AP) -Arizona Reid scored 29 points and Eugene Harris added 21 as High Point never trailed in beating New Jersey Institute of Technology 76-53 Wednesday night in the consolation round of the NIT Season Tipoff tournament. Reid, the preseason choice as player of the year in the Big South conference, was 11-for-18 from the field. He also had eight rebounds, two blocks and two steals. High Point (1-2), which lost 77-64 to Utah in the first round of the tournament Tuesday and is favored to win its conference, led 34-16 at halftime and 63-32 after Reid's steal and basket with 5:50 left in the game. ``He is like that every night. He's got high energy,'' Panthers coach Bart Lundy said of Reid, who is averaging 24.7 points per game through three games. ``Our team bounced back from a tough game.'' Kraig Peters and Nesho Milosevic each scored 13 points for NJIT (0-3), which is in its second season in Division I. The Highlanders from Newark lost 88-47 to host Washington in the first round of the tournament Tuesday and 70-28 Saturday in their opener at home against Manhattan. ``This is a great tournament and a great learning experience for us,'' said Wendell Alexis, NJIT's interim coach while Jim Casciano is on indefinite leave for health reasons. ``This is going to help us in the long run.'' |
