TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) - After nearly a quarter-century as a major leaguer, Omar Vizquel is still trying to get used to his new career as a coach. Vizquel is in his first weeks as a minor league infield instructor for the Los Angeles Angels, who hired him last month. The 11-time Gold Glove shortstop didn't even take a winter off after finishing up his playing career with Toronto last fall. Instead, the 45-year-old is relishing his chance to work with the Angels' young players while taking the first steps toward his goal of becoming a major league manager. Vizquel hasn't completely shaken off his playing habits, however. He's still working out at the Angels' spring training complex well before many players arrive, although he says he's taking it easy compared to his playing days. |
