MIAMI (AP) - When Miami Marlins baseball operations president Larry Beinfest gathers his staff for their first official meeting of spring training, he typically starts with a review of the previous season.
He's going with a different plan on Sunday morning.
Beinfest says there's no need to recap what went on with the Marlins in 2012. A new ballpark, big payroll, high expectations and a big-name manager were the ingredients for perhaps the most disappointing year in club history, a 69-win season that left them last in the NL East, 29 games out of first.
So the Marlins changed managers and changed players, trading standouts like former NL batting champion Jose Reyes, former NL ERA leader Josh Johnson and left-hander Mark Buehrle to Toronto.
