BOSTON (AP) - Chicago Cubs president of baseball operations Theo Epstein says he understands the ballclub's culture better now than he did when he first arrived. Epstein spoke about the Cubs' reputation as ``lovable losers.'' While that allowed the team to draw almost 2.9 million fans despite losing 101 games, Epstein won't consider it a success until the team wins. When he talks to players about being in Chicago long term, he sells them on the chance to turn things around. Epstein spoke at a fundraiser for his charity, The Foundation to be Named Later, at Fenway Park on Friday night. The topic was ``changing a clubhouse culture.'' Red Sox manager John Farrell and GM Ben Cherington also spoke, as did Baltimore Orioles manager Buck Showalter and Boston assistant GM Mike Hazen. |
